Summer has officially set-in in Phoenix and the 100+ degree weather has pushed us into the pool. We are practically living in water – either at the gym or in our backyard. Elayna is a little fish right now and we could barely get Mia (the chocolate lab) out of the pool when we dog-sat her last week.
Because E is spending so much time in her smashing-stylish goggles, she nearly has a permanent suction imprint on her eyes. She has also developed a wide range of fun pool games:
1) Chase the floating block toys. This is doubly fun since she plays both the part of thrower and fetcher.
2) Ring around the rosie in the floaty. This requires more mom-participation to spin her at an obnoxious rate over and over and over….
3) ‘Turn around and go brrrrr’ This is dad’s special game involving a death-spin while making motorboat sounds. While I have tried to participate, I do not do this correctly and am seriously scolded by E. Only dad does this best.
4) Be a shark. This new game was developed at the gym pool this weekend and played over and over and over. E would hold onto the edge and then strategically let go and float just underwater, pulling herself up when she needed a breathe or mom was about to intervene. I have yet to determine why it is a ‘shark’ game but we’ll let that go.
Needless-to-say, this summer has been extremely fun watching E develop her confidence in the pool. As we prepare for our month of August in Montana, I know that pool-time will be one thing we’ll miss about AZ.
