The Little Gym

For the past 2 months, Elayna and I have gone to a weekly toddler's class at the Little Gym.  This 45-minute class teaches her flexibility, risk-taking, balance, and co-operation with other kids.  It's a parent's class too and today both Aaron and were able to take her - a good excuse for me to bring in my camera!!

Here are a few pictures.  Elayna loves the class so much - we're trying to decide whether to sign up for another semester in a few weeks...

Elayna is a CHAMP in the balance beam.  Its by far her favorite thing and she could do that for the entire class (maybe she'll be an Olympian one day?)

She demo'd the forward summersault with her teacher, Ms. Rachel.  Summersaults are also a big favorite.

Elayna's best friend, Pete, also goes to the gym on Saturdays.  Here they're climbing on the mats together.

They play with bubbles at the end of class.  Here she is with her friend, Kira.  (Elayna seems pretty sweet here but she did hit Kira during class....  oh dear!!)

Our Favorite Conehead

It has been a while since Clancy has had a new collar -- unfortunately his latest accessory is not very fashion forward.

Clancy is prone to ear infections and has been in and out of the vet's office several times this year.  His last dose of medicine was not effective so Aaron took him back today!  While the ear infection was bad (and we have a whole new supply of expensive medicine), he also has allergies on his feet and has chewed them enough to warrant the lovely cone!  Poor Clancy!

While Clancy himself is pretty comical, Elayna is also funny - she just doesn't know what to make of him!  Clancy meanwhile keeps getting himself stuck and running into us with that stinking cone.  I think its going to be a long week ....

15-Month Pediatrician

Today was our latest trip to the doctor and all checked out!  Elayna is happy and normal (except for the transforming rocks into phones thing)!!  We're so thankful for our happy, healthy, beautiful daughter.

On the stats side, she's now 23 pounds (60t percentile), 32 inches tall (90th percentile).  She's starting to run (or at least walk faster than we would like), climbs on the couch now, dissects the kitchen drawers, and still has a little temper.

After our trip to Montana, we haven't had any big plans of late.  It's hot here so we're trying to spend time in the pool and enjoy being inside.  Yuck ... hopefully summer will be over soon!!

A Little More about Montana

The dust has settled somewhat from our travels so let me give a more thorough accounting of our 10 fabulous days in Big Sky Country.

We flew into Billings on July 2nd.  There's a non-stop flight from Mesa to Billings on Allegiant air and we all made it safely without much drama.  The flight was extremely early in the morning and it is so helpful to have 2 of us to wrangle Elayna; she did sleep across our laps for most of the flight.  And we all took huge naps once we were safely at Aunt Margene's house!

We stayed with Margene Thursday night and all went to dinner at Mackensie River Pizza.  Jerry and Carol drove up from Blackwell, OK for the week and also met us for dinner.  There's nothing better than Mackensie River!!

Friday we drove down to Red Lodge and stayed in a lovely condo with Jerry and Carol.  The weather was fantastic, the condo had a hot tub, and we bought several bottles of wine!  Its not a bad way to spend a few days....  On Friday night, Aaron grilled for everyone (Jerry, Carol, Margene, and Gordon) and we had amazing steak and shrimp.

Grandpa Jerry and Grandma Carol

Red Lodge puts on a good show for the 4th and we weren't disappointed.  Elayna experienced her first parade and her first rodeo!  It took her a while but she finally relaxed at the parade and ventured out to watch the floats.  We also had a yummy lunch at Uncle Gordon's house with Jay and Annie before heading to the rodeo grounds.  Elayna watched most of the rodeo in awe and enjoyed being passed back and forth amongst her family.    She was fast asleep by fireworks time, but we had a great view from outside our condo!

At the Red Lodge parade

On Sunday, July 5th, we drove from Red Lodge to my parent's ranch south of Helena.  On the way we stopped at Clydehurst Christian Ranch (on the Boulder, south of Big Timber) for a few hours.  Aaron worked at Clydehurst several summers through high school and college and still knows most of the staff.  And we happened to be there when Randy Williams, one of our Pastors in Phoenix, was the speaker!  Randy and family gave us the royal tour and Aaron loves showing Elayna all the best camp spots.  We'd love to go up there for a family camp one of these years - it is so beautiful!

At Clydehurst with her daddy.

Eventually, we made it to the ranch and a very anxious Grandma Missy.  My mom was SOOO happy to see Elayna and spoiled her most of the week.  She even babysat for us on Tuesday so we could drive into Bozeman for the day.  Elayna loved the ranch.  She mostly ate rocks and went for long walks down the driveway.  She also started calling all animals 'puppies'.

On Wednesday, my Uncle Allen and Aunt Janet arrived from Corpus Christi.  It's been several years (ok, probably 10) since I've seen them and it was so much fun to catch up!  My Aunt Janet also spoiled Elayna - they read, went for walks, and ate lunch together.  Janet watched Elayna for us Thursday night so we could all listen to my brother play his fiddle at an Irish bar in Helena.  My Uncle Allen is a GREAT cook and he did several meals for us during the week.

On Friday, my 2 Texas cousins both flew in for the weekend.  Andrew just graduated from Georgetown and works for the state department; my cousin Michael attends the University of Texas and is a talented piano player.  It's been eons since we've seen them too!

The WHOLE family (except Andrew and Michael) - such fun!

Since Andrew and Michael never offered to babysit (or figured it was a lost cause with my mom and Aunt Janet around), I decided to make it my mission to show them around the ranch on Saturday.  Michael drove the swather, we went the the dump and smashed things, and we attempted to drive back to the lake (in the back of the truck of course!).  The lake trip was aborted because of obnoxious man-eating mosquitos but it was a fun drive anyway.

At the dump ... smashing things!

We left Sunday morning and were sad to go.  It was a busy, crazy few days.  While I'm so thankful to see everyone and know these opportunities are few and far between, I also really wanted a nap!

Elayna was a trooper through this whole trip!  She's officially transitioned over to 1 nap a day and did really well eating a variety of foods while travelling.  She has started making an annoying 'uh-uh' sound every time she wants something - in Montana that meant she wanted to go outside.  On her first day back at day-care, her teacher said she was 'dramatic' and on the second she was 'starting to get back to normal'.  Poor Elayna - it is hard to get used to having so many people who love her!!!

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Today is my parent's 36th wedding anniversary!!  Congratulations, Mom and Dad!  We love you!

We were very blessed to have breakfast with my parents and family before leaving this morning to fly home.  Our trip to Montana is over ... and Aaron and I are both tired, happy, and looking forward to sleeping in our own bed.  It was so much fun to see our families over the last 10 days but traveling with a 1-year old is not easy and we're all definitely off our rhythm.

I'm still working on loading pictures -- so far I've counted 288 from our Montana trip so there's some 'weeding out' to be done.

So I'll tackle this tomorrow ... after the aforementioned good night's sleep, a long day catching up at work, and settling back into the 115 degree heat.

World Travelers

I have grand intentions of loading some photos up soon - unfortunately, we're in Montana and the connection speed isn't great.  But we have had a wonderful week so far, so let me document a few things before time slips away again...

Twice a year, my Wells Fargo team meets in San Francisco.  I flew out there last Sunday and stayed for two nights.  It was great to see my team members, we had a really fun few days of meetings and touring San Fran.  Aaron stayed home with baby girls and did a GREAT job ... its hard to be a single parent and I know he was ready for a break when I got home.

This is my WF Team - overlooking Golden Gate Bridge.  L-R:  me, Tanya Kaminsky (San Fran), Anh NguyenLe (San Fran), and Janelle Nielson (Portland).  Anh and Tanya drove us around to the hot spots in town on Sunday and we had an AMAZING dinner in Sausalito that night.  I had probably the best scallops ever (coated in butter and lightly fried - it doesn't get much better than that!)  It was really fun to catch up with my team face to face.  While I love the flexibility and hours, I do sometimes feel disconnected working part-time.

I got home on Tuesday and we turned around on Thursday and flew to Billings!  We're spending the next week in Montana.  After a night at Aaron's Aunt Margene's, we drove down to Red Lodge to spent the 4th of July there.  Aaron's dad and wife Carol met us and we had a lovely condo across from the rodeo grounds.

Elayna had a BUSY 4th of July!  With her grandma and grandpa, she saw her first parade, first rodeo, lots of family, and got lots of love!  It was great!

We're now at my parent's ranch in Winston.  My mom's family from Texas is flying in this week and we expect a lot of craziness and fun!  Pictures to follow soon, of course!

Happy 4th of July to all!!!
