Father’s Day

I’m a little late posting photos of Elayna and her Dad.  But make no mistake that Aaron is king of this little girl’s heart.

Thank you, Aaron, for the million little things you do to prove to Elayna how much you love her.  She’s a lucky girl!!

New Home-Day 46

The lot is still a big pile of dirt.  However, we’re visualizing the end result and finally held our design appointment to pick out flooring, cabinets, tile, etc.  It was an exhausting and yet exciting day.

On one hand, Pulte provides us with a zillion options.  The carpet choices are numerable (although mostly shades of brown).  But in other things there are few choices; our kitchen has one possible layout with 3 options for upgrading appliances.  After some debate, we decided to upgrade our kitchen and tile downstairs (where we’ll spend most of our time) and stay with the standard fixtures in the rest of the house.  It was still an expensive day…

I was a big fan of the mosaic blue, white and brown tile that we’ll be using for our kitchen backsplash.  We designed the rest of the kitchen around it - picking a medium brown cabinet, darker blue/brown granite, and a lighter grey tile.  The tile is long and narrow and has a mock-wood grain.  I think it will mimic wood and should be a nice effect on the main floor.

The carpet is lighter beige and will run up the stairs, in the loft, and in all bedrooms except the master (our carpet is darker).  Also in the master shower, we designed a slate wall and floor with cool amber accents.

We have also decided to add a built in entertainment center and fireplace in our great-room.  This was a structural change and Pulte has to submit a change-request for our permits (a little drama with that).  However, Aaron and I are both excited about the built-ins and extra sophistication it will bring the house!

So while there is not much PHYSICAL progress, we’ve made some major home decisions and are plugging along.  We also have a projected BREAKING GROUND DATE = August 22nd!

While Dad’s Away

….we’ll go to the Children’s Museum.

Aaron’s in Europe again and the weather is crazily hot.  With a long weekend looming ahead of us, I decided to take Elayna to the Children’s Museum.  It had been almost a year since we’ve gone and I think she missed it.

While she used to spend endless amounts of time painting their paper-mache castle or hiding in the toddler room, she now scampers unafraid through the climber of figures things out in the ball room.  It is fun to see her evolution; she’s grown so much physically but mentally as well!

Socially, she’s such an only child.  She ignores younger children, follows around older children, and whines with people don’t do what she wants.  She’s testing a lot of boundaries on how bossy or argumentative she can be to me and negotiates on nearly everything.  But I love how she talked this girl into peddling her around for quite some times – E does have some persuasion skills!  And at one point she introduced me to her new friend, a little girl who proceeded to run off (so the relationship was short lived).  But I love how E is connecting to people, recognizing familiar faces, and striving to make friends.  It’s cute.

So all in all, we made it through our weekend without Aaron and are doing alright.  With some pool time and a few rented movies, hopefully us two girls will survive…
